Previous Government Calculated National Bankruptcy if They Lost Power: Minister Saeed

The previous government had calculated to bankrupt the country at a certain point, if it lost its power, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed said yesterday.
Minister Saeed said this while addressing a meeting with the people of Shaviyani Atoll, Milandhoo during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to the four northernmost atolls of the country.
The Minister said the then government officials were talking about spoiling the image of Maldives through unregistered newspapers and various misrepresentations.
There is no reason to criticize the government of President Dr. Muizzu, and then try to throw the country into chaos by making up stories, he said.
“The calculation was to bankrupt the country on a certain day. This scenario was designed with the help of the then Foreign Minister and the then President. Then, they get angry that their plan failed, and talk about it in unregistered newspapers.”
Responding to the opposition, the Minister added that the people of Maldives will not allow them to come back and drag the country astray.
The Minister also highlighted the achievements of President Dr. Muizzu’s government. He said that an agreement has been signed to import wheat, sugar, and barley flour from Turkey in excess of the one-year requirement, and the first shipment of sugarcane has left Turkey.
In this regard, the Minister said that President Dr. Muizzu has listened carefully to the concerns of the people and he has personally looked into the affairs of the islands. The President formulates plans of action to benefit the people based on their needs and wants, and executes those plans.
“I am proud of the President. The people of Maldives are proud of the President,” the Minister said.
