Economic Development and Trade Minister Mohamed Saeed has called on opposition groups to stop what he described as misinformation and intimidation targeting investors seeking to do business in the Maldives.
In a statement shared on X, Saeed said political disagreements should never become campaigns against investors. He urged opposition groups to consider the public benefits and opportunities investment could bring to the country.
The minister argued that false narratives targeting prospective investors could benefit competing interests in the global marketplace. Ending such activities was essential to the Maldives’ development, he said.
Describing tourism as the main pillar of the Maldivian economy, Saeed said the travel and tourism industry continued to evolve and could not be built on hatred, falsehoods or jealousy.
He also maintained that Maldivian law would govern all activities in the country and that nothing contrary to the Constitution would be permitted.
Saeed urged those raising concerns to examine the facts and stop spreading what he characterised as misinformation and hatred.
The statement, as provided, did not identify specific investors, opposition groups or examples of the alleged intimidation.
