President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced the government’s intention to start a major project to establish island council offices in 50 islands this year.
He said this while addressing a press conference in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, at a meeting with the people of Makunudhoo yesterday.
President Dr. Muizzu said the investor finance model will be used to develop 50 island council office buildings throughout the country.
The President stated that the islands will be selected for the development project through a system of priority, with more points given to those islands which face significant damage or overcrowding, with additional points awarded for how long the council has been operating. He added that all 50 buildings will be started simultaneously this year.
President Dr. Muizzu assured the people that he is committed to the model of decentralization and will give the people the best possible opportunities from within their home islands.
