I Will Not Arrest or Punish People for Political Reasons: President

The President has said that he will not arrest and punish people politically. Mohammed Muizzu said. He said this in his presidential statement at the opening of the first session of the Parliament today.
Delivering the Presidential Statement, President Muizzu assured the Parliament and the judiciary of the government's full cooperation and assistance.
He said in his first address to the nation after being sworn in as President of Maldives that the government had ceased to influence the trials and his government would uphold that principle.
The President said he was going forward in line with his promise that day that he would not have the spirit of revenge. He said the country needs to come to peace and he will direct his words and actions in line with his words in that regard.
He said he would ensure the rule of law and would fulfill his duty as the supreme head of state to establish justice and fairness in the state.
In addition, he said he would not exert any influence on the judiciary and would take immediate action if he found out that anyone belonging to the government was exerting such influence.
"After November 17th, 2023, the judiciary will function without any government influence,” the President said.
