This government will continue to instill strong nationalistic sentiments among the people and, at the same time, has launched important efforts to uphold the noble principles of the holy religion of Islam, President Dr. Mohammed Muizzu said today.
In his first presidential statement at the opening of the first session of the Parliament today, he said that he has started important efforts to instill good morals and behavior in society, so individuals will be inspired to work towards collective success, while upholding the noble principles of Islam.
He highlighted some of the work done by the government in the past two months and some of the things he plans to do in the future.
In addition, a program for training imams at PhD level is planned, and 1,000 poor people who cannot afford to go for Hajj will be given the opportunity to perform Hajj at government expense. “This will give this opportunity to 50 less fortunate people this year,” he said.
The President also mentioned the establishment of a separate office called Maldives Zakat House, which will help to organize donations from the people and allocate more importance to Zakat.
The upcoming holy month of Ramadan will be the first time the state of Maldives will offer Ramadan gifts to all households in the country, and the last ten days of Ramadan will be spent as public holidays, where people are encouraged to focus on spirituality and good deeds, he said.
“The government will celebrate Eid al-Fitr and other Islamic and national holidays in a spirit of religious and national joy and unity,” the President said.
The President also mentioned that an Islamic TV channel is being established to increase religious awareness of the people and maintain Islamic unity.
