Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem was attacked near the Noor Mosque in the morning as he was on his way home after parking his motorcycle. He was treated at ADK after the attack and was not seriously injured.
The prosecutor's office said in a statement published on its website today that Shameem was attacked by two men on a motorcycle.
The office further said that his security has been tightened and he has been visited by Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau this morning.
In addition, he has been treated at ADK and is in good condition, the prosecutor's office said.
The MDP interim president, former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, has blamed the government for the attack, saying it was a politically motivated attack.
The attack is currently being investigated by the Maldives Police Service. Police have not yet revealed the motive behind the attack, and no arrests have been made in connection with the case.
