US Assistant Secretary of State Lu Schedules Visit to Maldives

US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu is scheduled to visit Maldives.

The US State Department said Lu will meet with Maldivian officials during his visit. This is Lu's second visit to Maldives. Lu has previously visited Maldives on an official visit in 2021.

Lu will also discuss the progress of establishing the US Embassy in Malé with the Foreign Ministry, the State Department said.

Then US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced the opening of a US embassy in Maldives during his visit in September of 2020.
