PPM/PNC Members gather during the presidential campaign.
The Progressive Congress Coalition has more than 64,000 members, according to data released by the Election Commission (EC).
The EC yesterday released the number of members of the parties registered with the commission that reached 10,000 members as of last year.
Numbers of members as of last year:
- Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) 52,142
- Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) 36,223
- People’s National Congress (PNC) 28,201
- Jumhooree Party (JP) 18,349
- Adhaalath Party 8,796
- Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) 8,555
The number of registered members of the PPM/PNC has reached 64,424. However, many people have signed up for the PNC since the presidential election began and the number of members is expected to be much higher.
PNC Chairman Abdul Raheem Abdullah said in December that the party had 3,000 members when President Dr. Mohammed Muizzu won the 2023 presidential election. Although, since then, the party has gained more than 40,000 members, he said.
