First Senior Citizens Center to Open Next Month

The Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSFD) has announced that the first of the senior citizens' centers to be established in different parts of the country will be established in Malé next month.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has promised to establish special social centers for the elderly in different parts of the country to ensure a healthy life for the elderly.
Family Ministry Social Service Coordinator Abdullah Ashraf told PSM's 'Rajje Miadhu' program yesterday that the ministry's top priority is the work of senior citizens' centers.
The government aims to begin opening these social centers within 14 weeks, with the preparations for physical work of setting up the centers already underway, he said. The project will first establish a senior citizens center in Malé, with the completion of the project scheduled for next month.
"A lot of work is being done to establish the centers, including the start of the practical work," Ashraf said.
Upon completion of the Malé center, the work of establishing senior citizens' centers in different parts of the country will begin to take place, he said.
The government had earlier announced that the centers would provide sports and recreational services to promote mental and physical health. The centers will also provide counseling services and work spaces for associations, as well as programs to share the experiences of senior citizens.
In addition, the agency will provide some services provided by various government agencies under one roof. Along with social services, health assessment programs will also be conducted there.
