Financial Assistance for Foster Families Announced

The Ministry of Social and Family Development has announced that the state will provide financial assistance to foster families every month.
In order to ensure that every child grows up in a family, the Ministry has now opened applications for families to apply to temporarily become foster parents for children currently in state care.
Along with an assessment of families who wish to foster children, the ministry will conduct training sessions for those families. The children will then be handed over to their new families. However, even after the children are handed over to these families, the ministry will continue to monitor their situation.
The ministry said the government will provide an allowance of 5,000 MVR per month to families who foster children, so the families can cover the financial needs of these children. The children will be placed in temporary care for a period of two years. However, families will also have the option of extending or making the arrangement permanent, if they so wish.
According to the 2022 figures released by the Children in State Care, Fostering and Reintegration Service, 40 children have been taken into the care of the ministry. This number included 23 girls and 17 boys. According to statistics, 40 children have been reintegrated with their families or given jobs and internships. Among them are 22 girls and 18 boys.
In addition, by 2022, the state has provided parents for 10 children. These were seven girls and three boys.
