Vice President Condemns Israel’s Attacks on Palestine

Vice President, Uz. Hussain Mohamed Latheef is currently attending the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement, and has delivered a statement for the Maldives.
He discussed the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people, and stated that Humanity is at a crossroads. The action that is taken in this situation will set a precedent for future conflicts. The Vice President commented on the humanitarian crisis that is unfolding in Gaza, and the tens of thousands of innocent lives that have been lost. The Maldives strongly condemns the senseless violence and excessive force that has been employed by the Israeli state. He further called for unified international action to push for an immediate ceasefire, and permanent solution for peace.
Vice President Latheef has condemned Israel's attacks on Palestinians as a violation of the International Convention against Genocide. The Vice President also praised South Africa for taking the matter to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and called for a declaration that Israel had violated the treaty.
South Africa has filed a petition with the ICJ seeking to stop Israel's genocide against Palestinians. Hearings on the case, which sought an immediate ceasefire order, have now begun.
Calling for an immediate end to the inhuman atrocities against the Palestinian people, the Vice President said a peaceful and permanent solution could only be achieved through the creation of two states, and the recognition of East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine.
Israel has been waging a war on Palestinians since October 7, 2023, when Hamas launched a series of attacks on Israel. The attacks in Gaza and the West Bank have killed over 30,000 Palestinians.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned that “no court, no military force” will be able to stop Israel from trying to “destroy Hamas,” as large rallies call for the protection of the Palestinian people are taking place around the world.
