The Foreign Minister, Moosa Zameer, began his visit to Uganda on the morning of 16th January to attend the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) of Heads of State. The Foreign Ministry said Minister Zameer will attend all ministerial meetings during the summit in Kampala.
Maldives will always work to address the challenges facing peace efforts, the ministry said. The minister attended the opening ceremony of the ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement chaired by Uganda yesterday.
The ministerial meeting is held before the summit. Minister Zameer has made three proposals at the ministerial meeting. He said in a post on X that he delivered a speech on behalf of Maldives at the NAM meeting today.
Minister Zameer made 3 recommendations:
- 1. Restructure existing working methods to improve efficiency by taking advantage of the latest technological advances
- 2. Recognize global changes and respond to emerging new challenges, including security threats
- 3. Reform and re-strengthen the multilateral system and create an environment conducive to international cooperation
