President Muizzu's First Presidential Statement to be Delivered on 5th February

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is scheduled to deliver his first presidential statement to the parliament next month.
The first session of this year will be held on February 5th, the Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Aslam said. The speech will take place at 9:00 am on the same day.
On November 17th, 2023, Dr. Muizzu was sworn in as President. According to the Constitution, the President must make a presidential statement on the issues he sees in the first session of the Parliament each year.
The opposition MDP had a super majority in parliament when President Muizzu took over the government, but many of its MPs have recently joined the ruling PNC. The MDP has dropped to having 43 members of parliament but still holds the majority.
The Election Commission has decided to hold parliamentary elections on March 17th, as the terms of the current members expire i April.
