Opposition Leaders Meet with British High Commissioner to Discuss Key Issues

The Progressive Congress Coalition recently held a meeting with the British High Commissioner to the Maldives, H.E Caron Rohsler, at the British High Commission in the Maldives. The meeting was attended by MP Mohammed Saeed, Vice President of the People's National Congress, and MP Ahmed Shiyam, Vice President of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).
Since the sentencing of former President Yameen to 11 years in jail on December 25th, 2022, leaders of the opposition have been meeting with various diplomats and members of the international community. The opposition claims that the charges against Yameen, which include money laundering and bribery, are politically motivated and part of a witch hunt. Yameen is the opposition coalition's presidential candidate for the upcoming elections.
The meeting with the British High Commissioner was an opportunity for the opposition leaders to discuss their concerns with a key member of the international community. The exact details of the meeting have not been made public, but it is clear that the opposition is actively seeking support and engagement from the international community as they navigate the current political landscape.
