The Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has issued a statement condemning President Ibrahim's recent crackdown on democracy in the Maldives. The statement accuses the President of authorizing excessive force against the Maldivian people and violating the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives.
The statement alleges that coalition parliamentarians were forcibly removed from parliament chambers and subjected to beatings and inhumane tactical takedowns, resulting in various injuries and damages to their personal properties. The opposition party also condemns the excessive use of force against unarmed peaceful protestors and the targeted attack on the free press by the Ibrahim regime.
In the statement, the Progressive Congress Coalition states that they will continue to voice their commitment to upholding rule of law and democracy in the Maldives and promoting reforms and progress for the Maldivian people. They declare that President Ibrahim's brutality will no longer be tolerated by the Maldivian people.
