Welcomed the New Year with a sense of frustration and disappointment: Opposition

The opposition coalition has stated hat the people of the Maldives welcomed the new year with frustration and disappointment.
In a statement issued last night, the opposition coalition said, 2023 started while opposition leader President Yameen is in jail. The statement further stated that President Yameen was wrongfully jailed in a desperate attempt to ensure that President Solih wins a second term in office.
The opposition party called on the people of the country to vote for President Yameen in the next elections, saying that he is the only one who can lead the country out of its current economic crisis. The statement cited the increase in GST as a major factor in making the people poorer and argued that President Yameen's leadership and determination are needed to overcome these challenges. The statement also praised President Yameen for remaining steadfast even while he is in jail, and called on the people to protest and work to bring an end to the current regime.
"Our prayers are for President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom to be released from prison as soon as possible and that he wins this year's presidential election with a huge majority" the statement said.
