Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) wins two of the four by-elections held in 4 islands with most votes.
The by-elections were held to fill vacant seats on Sh. Maaungoodhoo Council and R. Rasmaadhoo, Th. Guraidhoo and L. Dhanbidhoo Women’s Development Committees.
PPM candidates won R. Rasmaadhoo and Th. Guraidhoo by-elections, whereas MDP candidates won L. Dhanbidhoo and Sh. Maaungoodhoo bi-elections.
PPM’s Sabira Mohamed won R. Rasmaadhoo Women’s Development Committee bi-election and PPM candidate Sharuma Ali Manik won Th. Guraidhoo Women’s Development Committee by-election.
PPM collectively got the most votes in these by-elections with 1112 votes. MDP, brought in the second most votes with 713 votes, and MNP received 201 votes. Finally, independent candidates acquired 50 votes.
Following the results of yesterday’s bi-elections, People’s National Congress (PNC)’s Vice President and Male’City Councilor Ibrahim Shujau thanked the people for their support for PPM and opposition coalition leader and presidential candidate, Abdulla Yameen Abdul Qayyoom.
