The opposition Progressive Congress coalition has called on authorities to fully investigate the latest murder in the Maldives, and urged authorities to implement the harshest penalties on the murderer.
The coalition released a statement following the horrific murder of a 22-year-old woman in the capital Male’.
The statement expressed the coalition’s concern over the brutal murder, calling for justice for the victim, and called on authorities to implement the harshest punishment on the murderer. The statement also sent family of the deceased condolences.
The Progressive Congress coalition had called on authorities to seek all who had any involvement in the murder and to prosecute them as well. A speedy investigation, the statement said, was essential.
The statement added that Party’s leader President Abdullah Yameen, the coalition leadership, Senate, steering committees, and members of the Party were in solidarity with the family and friends of the victim.
Maldives Police Service (MPS) had confirmed that a young man was arrested on the scene in the early hours of Sunday. Unofficial sources have confirmed the young man is a star in the skating scene, Ali Saahil.
It is also reported the victim was his partner. Sources had reported her head was severed.
