The Civil Court has stopped the development of resorts in three islands near Komandoo (Shaviyani Atoll).
The Civil Court blocked their development after the government had decided on leasing the islands out for the development of resorts. The islands in question are Medhurah, Mairah, and Dhigurah.
The government announced their decision to lease out the three islands for resort development during the campaign for the Komandoo constituency by-election. The Civil Court stopped the leasing from going through after a case filed by Premier Equity; a resort development company based in the Maldives.
Premier Equity claimed that they had entered into a settlement agreement with the government through which the government had agreed to grant the company the three islands. The company requested the Court to stop the lease from going through until the Civil Court came to a verdict.
Premier Equit's shareholders include Vaail Zahir Hussain; owner of Mihaaru News; and Saran'gu Adam Maniku.
