The political opposition has submitted a case to the State's authorities claiming that the 2018 presidential election had been rigged.
Speaking at a news conference held at the Progressive Party of Maldives head office, the opposition's legal team said that they had submitted a case; in which they claim that the 2018 presidential election had been rigged; to the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM), the Maldives Police Service (MPS), the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), and the Ombudsperson's Office for Transitional Justice.
The legal team said that they had identified 25 different issues within the case. They also stated that they had the evidence to prove each of the issues that they had identified.
Among the issues that they had submitted, they had included the alleged use of a ring with a concealed pen to secretly draw lines on the ballot papers and the use of invalid ballot papers.
In addition, they said that false information had been given to the State authorities regarding the ballots, and they also mentioned that threats had also been made. They said that they would be vigilant until the culprits are investigated and brought to trial.
Although the opposition had previously submitted a case to the Supreme Court claiming that the election had been rigged, the Court had stated that they had found no reason to nullify the election results.
