The opposition Progressive Congress Coalition's demonstration "Minivan Kamuge Hin'gaalun" (or, "Walk for Independence") has been postponed to next Friday, November 12.
The opposition had arranged to hold the demonstration this weekend. However, it was postponed on account of the weather.
During a press conference held by the opposition, Mohamed Ismail; the Chair of the PPM's Activities Committee; told reporters that this was a patriotic protest, and this demonstration was necessary because the rights of the citizens were being violated, the judiciary was being unduly influenced, and because opaque agreements that threatened national sovereignty were being signed.
He said that although the PPM was organising the demonstration, he urged civil societies and political parties to join. He said that the government was responsible for many things that threatened national security, and standing up to in defence of the nation was something that all citizens ought to do.
The opposition had organised a demonstration on October 29, it was attended by many people, and many officials and parliamentarians of the opposition were in attendence.
The demonstration has been scheduled to begin in front of PPM's head office at 3:45pm.
