Police Uses Excessive Force on Journalists Covering Protests

Maldives Police Service has used excessive force on journalists covering the protests held by the opposition Progressive Congress Coalition on Sunday evening.
A number of journalists were injured as a result of excessive force used by the police. Among those who were injured includes Mohamed Samaah, the COO of Channel 13, who suffered a head injury. In addition two other journalists from two different media outlets were injured at treated at the hospital.
The police used excessive force on protestors as well as many civilians and independent media journalists that were present to cover the protests.
Some civilians witnessed one of the journalists being hit on the legs with police shields, which caused injuries to his leg. While many journalists received injuries some female members of the party also received injuries and were taken to the hospital for further treatment.
