The participants arrested during yesterday’s Opposition Progressive Congressive Coalition demonstrations being carried out every Friday episodically, have now been fined and released.
From yesterday’s demonstration, 16 people were taken in to remand and all of them were released after being fined according to the HPA guideines. Yesterday’s demonstration was against rape. The demonstration started at the adjoining intersection of Majeedhee Magu and Sosun Magu and carried on to other parts of Male’ City.
Majority of the participants who were active in this demonstration were women and they were on the front line as well. It should be noted that a lot of police were active to control and disperse the protest.
