The opposition Progressive Congress Coalition has appointed Mohamed "Nazaki" Zaki as the Coalition's representative to Malaysia and Singapore. Zaki had joined the opposition Coalition very recently, citing his support of the "India Out" movement that they had adopted.
MP Mohamed Saeed (PNC-Maavashu), the head of the Coalition's Foreign Relations Department, had sent a signed letter to the embassies of Malaysia and Singapore announcing Zaki's appointment.
Zaki, who holds a Malaysian passport, had previously served as the Maldivian ambassador to Malaysia, and had also served as Maldives' non-resident ambassador to Brunei, Thailand, and Indonesia.
Zaki had most recently served as chairman of the Maldives Ports Limited under the Solih administration. He had resigned his position after he had exposed a case of corruption within the company that had not been addressed by the government.
Zaki resides in Malaysia's capital, Kuala Lumpur. His objective as the coalition representative would be to help strengthen the ties between the Coalition and Malaysia and Singapore.
