According to the Vice President of the opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and parliament representative for Naifaru constituency Ahmed Shiyam, the opposition leader and former President Yameen Abdul Gayoom has implored not to be careless in the efforts to reclaim the nation.
During the Havaasaa program hosted by online news Vaguthu on Clubhouse, MP Shiyam claimed that President Yameen’s message is the national message he conveyed during his presidency.
Although he is currently detained and has faced harm, the former president has implored for the nation to be prioritized over him. He also asked not to be careless in solving the country’s issues.
Shiyam also conveyed that President Yameen said he prioritized the nation then and even now. He reported that the former president stated that the nation is bigger than any individual or political party.
As per the Naifaru MP, the former president acknowledged that there is a great deal of work to be done in order to return the country to Maldivians, and has always implored that efforts to solve the nation’s issues must not be conducted carelessly.
Former President Yameen is currently detained in his home. He was issued a five-year prison sentence by the Criminal Court in 2019. The verdict has been appealed to the Supreme Court on his behalf. Two appeal hearings are to take place on Monday.
