Vice President of the opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Ahmed Shiyam has claimed that President of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), Thulhaadhoo MP Hisaan Hussain had stated to him that the leaked audios of the judges presiding over former President Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s Criminal Court trail are legitimate.
During the Havaasaa program hosted by online news Vaguthu on Clubhouse, Shiyam said that MP Hisaan told him that the judges’ audios are legitimate, and that she couldn't deny the statement.
Shiyam iterated that there is evidence to support the judges’ statements regarding the verdict passed on former President Yameen. He noted that the judge heading the bench, Justice Ali Rasheed, has received a double promotion and has been transferred to the state’s highest court, as stated in the audios.
The state and courts have been extremely unjust in dealing with President Yameen’s case, said Shiyam. During their previous meeting, he implored President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s Chief of Staff Ali Zahir to allow for a just trial free from influence, and assured that PPM will bring justice when the party assumes leadership.
He reiterated that all citizens who have closely followed the former president’s trial are aware that the verdict is unjust, and that the state has been acting under the policy of “selective justice” in regards to President Yameen.
