The candidates backed by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih have won the ruling Maldives Democratic Party’s (MDP) Council of Appellate Judges.
18 members competed for the 9-seat council on Monday night. 9 members each took part on behalf of former President Nasheed and President Solih.

While there were a total of 1036 votes for the election, 120 votes were from members. This included four invalid votes.
Some MDP members have begun expressing concern regarding the election’s proceedings. This is the first internal election held after former President Nasheed has stated he no longer wishes to pursue political endeavors with President Solih.
