JSC Investigating Judges' Leaked Audios

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has begun the investigation into the leaked audios of three Criminal Court judges comprising the bench that issued former President Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s verdict.
The three judges’ audio indicated that the verdict convicting President Yameen of money laundering and sentencing him to five years in prison was influenced.
In his leaked clip, Judge Mohamed Sameer stated that he was forced to pass the verdict. He highlighted that one can be forced to do so in several ways, including holding a spouse hostage.
Justice Ali Adam claimed that he met Ali Zahir, Chief of Staff at the President’s Office. Ali Zahir allegedly met with him upon Chief Judge Ali Rasheed’s request. He reported that before the verdict was passed, Ali Rasheed was informed he would become a Supreme Court Judge.
JSC’s statement read that the commission today decided to investigate audio clips indicating that Criminal Court judges were influenced to pass a verdict.
It further read that the investigative committee has begun investigating the issue, and is attempting to obtain the judges’ statements today.
