MVR 398 Million Received in Green Tax

Maldives has received MVR 398 million in green tax within the first six months of 2021.
According to figures published by the Ministry of Finance, green tax in June amounted to MVR 59 million. Out of all the atolls, the Kaafu Atoll contributed the most in green tax with MVR 21 million. No green tax has been received from the Faafu Atoll.
The Green Fund currently has MVR 1 billion. MVR 184 million out of the fund has been expended so far this year on various island development projects.
The green tax was introduced in 2016 during former President Yameen Abdul Gayoom's tenure. Guests staying at resorts, safaris and hotels are to pay USD 6 per day, and tourists staying at guesthouses are to pay USD 3 per day.
