The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has reported that the state collected over MVR 1.7 billion from departure tax and airport development fees in the first six months of this year.
According to MIRA statistics, MVR 879.9 million was generated from departure tax, marking a 48 percent increase compared to MVR 594.5 million collected during the same period in 2024. Additionally, the airport development fee contributed MVR 885.8 million, a 46 percent rise from MVR 606.7 million recorded in the first half of last year.
Combined, these two revenue streams accounted for 10.6 percent of total state revenue during this period.
Departure tax, introduced on January 1, 2022, applies to all passengers leaving Maldivian airports. Rates vary by passenger category: Maldivians pay \$12 and foreigners \$30 for economy class, while private jet passengers pay \$120.
