Criminal Court Hearing for Pres. Yameen Tomorrow

The Criminal Court tomorrow will conduct a hearing on the state’s two charges against former President Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
The hearing regarding charges of accepting a bribe and money laundering is to be held at 9 am tomorrow.
The state has accused former President Yameen of pocketing USD 1 million as a bribe in the leasing of Fuhgiri, Raa Atoll for resort development.
The former President has denied both the state’s charges. President Yameen’s lawyers have stated that he was not involved in the Fuhgiri transaction and that he conducted a dollar transaction with the Sun Companies.
Both parties presented their evidence during the previous hearing. The state’s key witnesses include former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb and former Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) Abdulla Ziyath. Adeeb and Ziyath testified against President Yameen on a previous charge.
President Yameen also presented defense witnesses to verify that he conducted a dollar transaction.
During tomorrow’s hearing, both parties are to present all pre-trial matters to the court.
