Nasheed Discontent as He Himself Must Bear Expenses of Lawyer

Former President and incumbent Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has expressed discontent as he must bear the expenses for the lawyer he has appointed as his representative for the investigation into the May 6 assassination attempt.
In a message to the parliament’s WhatsApp group, Nasheed stated that he will be bearing the costs for the lawyer. However, according to the lawyer, it is not a financial policy for the expense to be borne by the Parliament Speaker and Leader of Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) in relation to an assassination attempt.
“It is not respectful either”, said Nasheed.
He stated that it is especially disrespectful to call for his resignation. It is unclear who the statement is aimed at.
A statement from parliament today read that Kirsty Brimelow QC has been appointed to represent President Nasheed, as well as to monitor and aid in the investigation into the attack.
While the parliament administration has claimed it will not be bearing the expense, Nasheed has revealed that he himself will be doing so.
