Dhiyares Requests Details of Foreign Minister Shahid's Travels

Dhiyares has requested details of the expenses for Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid’s trips abroad within the past year.

In accordance with the Right to Information Act, Dhiyares had requested details on the minister’s travels from June 1, 2020, to July 31, 2021. Information requested includes expenditure for the trips and the number of days spent in each country.

Dhiyares has previously obtained and published the information on Minister Shahid’s travels. The minister has been on several trips this year, spending millions while in New York, USA.

While Shahid is currently abroad, state travel expenditure has reached MVR 60 million.

The state claims that the purpose of numerous visits to foreign countries by government officials is to obtain foreign aid. However, the state has received less than 20 percent of projected foreign aid.
