Shahid Leading Establishment of Indian Military Base: Sarangu Adam Manik

The first-ever Mayor of Male’ City and seasoned member of the ruling Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) Sarangu Adam Manik has revealed his opinion on the Indian imperialism in the Maldives.

During the “Havaasaa” program on the Dhivehi Channel, Adam Manik stated that the powerful will always try to overtake the weak and that Indian influence has been increasing due to the current leadership’s lack of substance. He claimed that India is not to blame in this situation, but rather the Maldivian leaders.

Acknowledging that all actions are motivated by personal gain, Adam Manik speculated that Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid is behind the secret agreements with India and the establishment of the Indian military base. “This is happening because the leadership is without substance. I don’t believe India is at fault here. Our leaders are at fault”.

He dubbed Shahid an Indian candidate, adding that India must act respectfully towards Maldives as well. “India is the elephant in the room in the Indian Ocean. But India must also deal with us respectfully, without bullying us”, said Adam Manik.

He made serious accusations against the current government, claiming that India must cease coercing Maldivian political figures to sign secret agreements from behind a veil. He stated that although India is a large and powerful country, Maldives is an independent, sovereign nation and that India should not be attempting to infiltrate Maldivian matters through its back door.

“You all know how the Indian Ambassador is behaving here. Even his driver leaves his car in the middle of the road. No one dares to speak up”, said Adam Manik regarding the High Commissioner of India in Maldives Sunjay Sudhir. As per Adam Manik, there will be no better place than India once India’s bully system against Maldives is abolished.
