Former President and incumbent Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has appointed Nazim Sattar, his younger brother, as his lawyer in relation to the May 6 terror attack.
Nazim Sattar was appointed as the former President’s lawyer following Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem stating that President Nasheed’s statement is vital to the case. In a letter to the PG, Nasheed referenced the matter and requested a lawyer.
President Nasheed requested his younger brother and lawyer Nazim Sattar to act as his legal representative.
Regarding his appointment, Nazim informed some media outlets that although he has chosen a lawyer, the former President has yet to decide on whether or not to provide a formal statement.
The state has raised a collective of 12 charges against four suspects involved in the attack on President Nasheed. If convicted, they all face lengthy prison sentences. However, the state has entered a plea deal with Adhuham, the detonator of the bomb.
