Lawyer for former President Nasheed and former Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has called for the immediate removal of Misbah Abbas from the Presidential Committee on Deaths and Enforced Disappearances (DDCom).
Dr. Jameel made his statement following Misbah informing local media that President Yameen chose to remain silent when summoned to DDCom.
According to his legal team, President Yameen was summoned to DDCom on Tuesday on suspicion of hindering the investigation into the enforced disappearance of journalist Ahmed Rilwan. The lawyers also stated that the former president has denied and falsified the accusations.
A local media outlet recently reported that during his tenure, President Yameen informed the then-Home Minister Umar Naseer not to investigate Rilwan’s disappearance. However, Umar has falsified the claim.
Regarding the matter, Dr. Jameel tweeted that a member of a serious committee such as DDCom must not act politically. He accused Misbah of spreading Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) propaganda and claimed that such members must be removed from the committee immediately.
