Although the matter was sent for prosecution in April, he has since been summoned to police several times. Dr. Mohamed Jameel, the lawyer for former President Yameen, claimed that he is being irritated and politically disadvantaged, as the investigation into that matter has already concluded.
While President Yameen is being summoned to police today, he has also been sent a summons chit from the Presidential Commission on Investigation of Murders and Enforced Disappearances (DDCom) on suspicion of hindering the investigation into the disappearance of journalist Rilwan Abdulla on Tuesday.
The state’s main witnesses for Sunday’s Criminal Court hearing on two charges against President Yameen were the main perpetrators in the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) corruption, former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb and Managing Director of MMPRC Avdulla Ziyath.
The opposition coalition describes the series of police investigations and charges against President Yameen as the government’s attempts to politically disadvantage the former President.
