Pres. Yameen Summoned to DDCom on Tuesday

The Presidential Commission on Investigation of Murders and Enforced Disappearances (DDCom) established by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has summoned the former President and Opposition Coalition Leader Yameen Abdul Gayoom on August 3.
Adam Shameem, President Yameen’s lawyer, informed Dhiyares that the summons chit read President Yameen was being summoned to the Commission on suspicion of hindering the investigation into the disappearance of journalist Rilwan Abdulla. The former President is being summoned to DDCom on Tuesday.
Head of President Yameen’s legal team and former Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed stated that the public has begun criticizing DDCom for being stagnant, and a failure. He speculated that the commission is using President Yameen as a shield from the citizens’ criticism.
Dr. Jameel further claimed that DDCom’s accusations against President Yameen are baseless and false.
DDCom has previously investigated and compiled a report on Rilwan’s disappearance. It was then presented to President Solih and the parliament. Regarding the former president’s summons, DDCom reported to Dhiyares they have notified President Yameen he is being summoned for questioning into the disappearance of Rilwan.
The report sent to the parliament which has now been publicized revealed that Mohamed Nooruddin, a candidate for Maldives Democratic Party’s (MDP) National Majilis and President Solih's bodyguard during the presidential elections, is suspected of abducting Rilwan.
