Increase in Imports Compared to Last Year

There has been an increase in imports this June compared to June of last year.
Figures published by Maldives Customs Service show that imports in June 2020 totaled MVR 2.1 billion. However, imports in June 2021 totaled MVR 3 billion, which is a 44 percent increase.
The previous year, the state received MVR 156 million from imports and exports. In contrast to last June, income has increased by 59 percent at MVR 246 million.
Exports have also increased in comparison to the past year. Goods worth MVR 221 were exported in June 2020. Exports this year were MVR 228 million, a three percent increase.
Most imports in June were from China and Singapore. Goods worth MVR 490 million were imported from Oman, and imports from China were worth MVR 391 million.
Maldives exports the most goods to Thailand. While 30 percent of exports go to Thailand, Japan comes at a close second.
