MDP Members Realize What They Received After 16 Years, Not What They Wanted: Shiyam

Parliament representative for Naifaru constituency and Vice President of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Ahmed Shiyam has stated that members of Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) have forgotten their original intent when the party was formed 16 years ago and that they have now realized what they have received is not what they were seeking.
Shiyam made his statement regarding MDP member and Chairperson of the Parliament’s Judiciary Committee Imthiyaz Fahmy’s response to Chairperson of the Parliamentary 241 Committee Mohamed Aslam claiming that MDP members must not discuss working with oppositional parties or act in ways that may weaken MDP.
MP Shiyam claimed that members of MDP, from those who hold the highest positions to civilians, have now realized that what they have received is not what they set out to achieve 16 years ago.
There has been an increasing number of disagreements among the members of MDP.
Leader of MDP former President Mohamed Nasheed recently revealed he will no longer be politically involved with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. He has also requested the support of opposition PPM in future political prospects.
Former President and incumbent Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed’s statements have worsened the divide within MDP, with members indirectly verbally attacking each other.
