The Indian government has stated that Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid will be signing off on development projects during his official visit to India as President-elect of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Shahid’s current visit to New Delhi is his first official trip as President-elect of the UNGA. Despite being elected as President of the UNGA, the UN will not be bearing the cost of official visits prior to his appointment. The Maldivian government will be bearing the expenses of this trip.
A statement released by the Ministry of External Affairs in India read that Minister Shahid will be calling on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Minister of External Affairs Jaishankar.
The meeting will comprise discussions regarding international affairs, and ways to strengthen the relationship between India and Maldives.
The statement further mentioned that the discussions will give further momentum to the rapidly expanding relationship between the two countries and agreements will be signed to conduct development projects with the aid of India.
It also stated that UNGA’s President-elect, who was assisted by India, will be speaking on the UN’s role in solving global issues.
