Several oppositional leaders have praised former President Yameen Abdul Gayoom's progressive thinking as the major project to establish an electricity network connecting Male' and Hulhumale' initiated during his tenure has been connected.
Vice President of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and parliament representative for Guraidhoo constituency Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon tweeted that President Yameen planned absolute development projects for Male', the Greater Male' Area, and all of Maldives.
Ghassan claimed that the projects were aimed to maximize benefits for citizens, increase capital, and enable the country to stand up on its feet independently. He then stated that President Yameen will save the country.
Thoriq Ibrahim, who served as Environment Minister during President Yameen's tenure, tweeted that although the completion of the project was delayed by the current government despite the settlement of funds and practical work being initiated by the former president, he is happy to see it complete.
Thoriq also claimed that the benefits citizens reap from projects initiated by President Yameen are a blessing.
Vice President of PPM and Naifaru MP Ahmed Shiyam tweeted that several other projects have been completed within a 5-year period due to President Yameen's forward-thinking.
Shiyam further stated that the two-year delay in completing and officiating the project was proof of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's government's slowness. He has thanked former President Yameen.
The project initiated on July 31, 2016 during the tenure of President Yameen is worth USD 140 million. A 50-megawatt powerhouse was constructed as part of the project assigned to a Chinese company.
The project was planned during President Yameen's tenure to aid in resolving electrical issues as the project to construct a bridge connecting Male' and Hulhumale' began.
