Parliament representative for Henveiru-West constituency and Chairperson of Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) Hassan Latheef has stated that government operations are negatively impacting MDP.
Hassan Latheef made this statement during a discussion on Clubhouse titled, "There is no need for MDP in the government coalition".
MP Latheef stated that most of the state's actions are against the principles of MDP and that the leadership and public members of MDP are against the government's new regulations.
He claimed he could not remain silent as the government commits such acts repeatedly, as it is unacceptable.
Expressing his discontent with the government, Hassan Latheef mentioned the government's lack of action against those involved in the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) corruption.
Speaking on the principles of MDP, he claimed that the party's actions were based on certain regulations.
He highlighted that MDP is against corruption and injustice and that the party came into power promising to amend such issues.
While Latheef has spoken against the government, many MDP officials have been expressing the same sentiments as of late.
The first to speak against the government was notably the Leader of MDP, Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed. Nasheed stated that he is no longer politically aligned with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and that he is planning to seek the support of former President Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
