Parliament representative for Naifaru constituency and Vice President of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Ahmed Shiyam has declared that the members and leadership of PPM will decide what is best for PPM.
Shiyam tweeted his declaration in response to Leader of Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) and incumbent Speaker of Parliament former President Nasheed's claims that forming a coalition with MDP and PPM, and requesting the support of PPM Leader former President Yameen Abdul Gayoom after the party adopts changes would be the best option for MDP and the nation.
Nasheed claimed that PPM needed to change its philosophies and be against the India Out campaign, advocate for the hate crime bill, and not prohibit music. MDP and PPM forming a coalition based upon those philosophies and asking for the help of President Yameen would greatly benefit MDP and Maldives.
Shiyam tweeted that the best option for the PPM-PNC (People's National Congress) coalition will be decided by them. He declared it is not a power held by another party or the leader of another party, and is neither their responsibility nor right.
He further stated that the leader of the PPM-PNC coalition and former President Yameen has proved that his philosophies are for the greater benefit of the public.
