We Need a New Perspective Advocating for Hate Crime Bill, Against India Out: Nasheed

Former President and incumbent Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has declared that he believes Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) needs a new perspective.
Nasheed on Monday stated he was no longer politically aligned with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and unable to stand with him on political matters, and claimed he would ask for the support of former President Yameen Abdul Gayoom, Leader of opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and his party.
Former President Nasheed tweeted today that his only intention is to save the Maldives, and he believes MDP needs to adopt a new perspective.
He described that the outlook must not protest against Indian military presence, stand for the hate crime bill, not condemn music, and not harass the Prophet and Islam.
He further stated that he believes most members of PPM and MDP shared the same views, and Maldivians do not wish to land in a situation similar to Afghanistan.
Despite Nasheed's statement, PPM members of parliament have been strongly opposed to the hate crime bill and have claimed it would lead to secularism.
President of People's National Congress (PNC) and interim Leader of opposition Progressive Congress Coalition Abdul Raheem Abdulla (Adhurey) stated that PPM is strongly opposed to Nasheed's religious views.
Adhurey claimed that opposition leader and former President Yameen maintains that Maldives must remain a 100 percent Muslim country, and that he stands for Maldives to be an independent nation with complete sovereignty.
