Parliament representative for Maavashu constituency and Vice President of People's National Congress (PNC) Mohamed Saeed questioned the purpose of the government if other organizations publicize information regarding projects conducted in collaboration with the government.
Regarding the High Commission of India in Maldives sharing information on the details of the development of Gan International Airport, MP Saeed tweeted that using foreign aid and loans for projects would bring no danger. However, if foreign embassies and high commissions publish information before the Maldivian government, Saeed questioned what the role of the elected government is.
Information on all development projects funded by India is being announced by the Indian High Commission, before the Maldivian government. Most often, the government is unaware of details in relation to the projects.
The Indian High Commission has revealed that once the development of Gan International Airport concludes, the terminal will be of a much higher standard, and become a distinct hub in the area. They added that the project was being funded by a USD 800 million loan from India.
