No Proof of Attempt to Bug Parliament Speaker's Quarters

Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) declared that the matter involving an alleged attempt to bug former President and incumbent Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed and Deputy Speaker Eva Abdullah's quarters has been filed due to lack of proof.
The matter surfaced in November 2020 as a member of staff claimed that a police officer was attempting to bug and spy on the office of Speaker Nasheed and Deputy Speaker Eva.
The Parliament's Sergeant-at-Arms has been investigating the accusation since it has surfaced.
After Speaker Nasheed, in November 2020, revealed the claim during a parliament session, Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem ordered police to investigate.
Police authorities, in February 2021, concluded the investigation and presented their findings to the PGO. The report presented to the PGO had insufficient evidence, so the case was not pursued further.
However, the Office wrote a detailed report to the Parliament's Committee on National Security, comprising information from the investigation, and security measures to prevent the matter.
Speaking on the case, former President Nasheed claimed he did not understand why a police officer would need to bug the parliament, and stated he would request police to investigate.
