High Commissioner of India to Maldives Sunjay Sudhir has met with Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid with a series of complaints.
During a meeting held at the Foreign Ministry on Sunday afternoon, the Indian High Commissioner demanded Minister Shahid take action against Dhiyares and the Maldives Journal. He also requested the minister to investigate how Dhiyares and TMJ were able to leak the hydrography agreement. The only copies of the agreement are available to the President's Office, the Ministry of Defense, and the Indian High Commission. Sudhir informed Shahid that the document's leak was a matter of great concern.
Sudhir also claimed he was concerned about his "movements" being leaked on social media, mentioning the leaked meeting with political figures at a resort, and a recent video of a secret meeting on a safari.
The Indian High Commissioner requested Shahid to strengthen security, and begin construction on the land allocated for a new Indian Embassy in Hulhumale'.
The Indian High Commission previously addressed a letter to the Foreign Ministry requesting to reprimand TMJ. However, before the ministry acknowledged the letter, Deputy Indian High Commissioner Rohit Rathish reported the matter to the Maldives Media Council through the Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions. The Media Council has decided not to investigate the matter.
The Indian High Commission is attempting to reprimand TMJ as Dhiyares and TMJ continue to publicize agreements between India and the Maldivian government that could potentially harm the independence and sovereignty of Maldives.
When questioned by TMJ regarding the meeting on Sunday, Minister Shahid refused to comment.
