Parliament representative for Kendhoo constituency Ali Hussain has expressed concern for intending to reprimand exercising the right to freedom of expression under the Constitution of Maldives.
Ali Hussain's statement was following the Indian High Commission's request to the government to reprimand media and individuals against Indian influence on domestic matters and Indian military presence in the Maldives.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) on Friday released a statement regarding the matter. Both statements were strongly against Dhiyares and the Maldives Journal.
MP Ali Hussain tweeted that in accordance with article 27 of the constitution, no one must be punished for exercising their right to freedom of expression.
He also stated that it is unacceptable for any establishment to run under the negative influence of a specific group.
