Parliament representative for Naifaru constituency and Vice President of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Ahmed Shiyam calls for majority party Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) to dissociate from foreign influence.
Shiyam on Friday tweeted regarding MDP mentioning the Co-founder and Chief Editor of Dhiyares and the Maldives Journal Ahmed Azaan by name in a press release.
The statement on Dhiyares and TMJ's reports of the Indian High Commission read that the articles were funded and planned propaganda to incite hatred between the people of Maldives and India.
MP Shiyam stated that endangering and tarnishing the reputations of specific police officers, soldiers, and journalists is a long-standing custom of MDP.
He also called for MDP to dissociate from foreign influence, and cease the habit of threatening journalists for exercising their constitutional right to freedom of the press.
The statement from MDP mentioning the co-founder of TMJ by name has been reported to police for creating hate and possible endangerment.
